LOCATION: Capitol Skyline Hotel Pool, 10 I (eye) St. SW, Washington DC 20024
DC’s performance art explosion is taking to the pool with SynchroSwim 2014 , the fourth presentation of WPA’s synchronized swimming performance art competition! Typically, synchronized swimming demands advanced water skills and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry, and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control. At WPA’s SynchroSwim , we celebrate creativity and enthusiasm. During the one-hour event, approximately 6 artist teams will perform short, unique routines set to musical compositions. Some may actually be synchronized, but the vast majority will be a free expression of creativity. Past performances have included a biting critique of BP’s role in the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, a celebration of the music of Van Halen, an excerpt from Fluid Movement’s Jason and the Aquanauts: 20,000 Legs Over The Sea , and even a performance by an actual synchronized swimming team.
WPA is pleased to welcome Seth Hurwitz , Chairman of I.M.P. Productions and co-owner of the 9:30 Club; José Ortiz , Executive Director of Artisphere; and Lauryn Ricketts , ABC7 Meteorologist as this year’s judges. The judges will rank the teams on a scale of 1 to 10 in two categories: Execution (the skill and coherence of their performance) and Visual Spectacle (the outrageousness of the team’s costumes and performance). Prizes are awarded in these two categories, as well as for Crowd Favorite, which is decided by applause.
SynchroSwim 2014 is free and open to the public and takes place at the Capitol Skyline Hotel Pool, 10 I (eye) Street SW, Washington, DC following the Capitol Skyline Pool Party. Free admission to SynchroSwim 2014 will begin at 4:30pm.

New Paintings by Sheep Jones
September 6 – October 12, 2014
Sheep Jones returns to plan b for her fourth solo exhibition. This anticipated show and always a crowd favorite, features paintings using many of Sheep’s familiar motifs (shed-like structures, roots and vegetables, fanciful characters, bees & birds, floating chandeliers, etc.) but the artist is constantly evolving and her works never seem to disappoint. Of the many collectors of Sheep’s work you’ll find most have several works of the artist. View a sample of previous works by Sheep Jones . Images for the show will be available closer to the exhibition. Opening Reception Saturday, September 6, 2014 6pm-8pm

The Strathmore Fine Artists in Residence initiative (Fine AIR) was established to help cultivate local visual arts talent by connecting established professionals in all aspects of the field with up-and-coming artists. Emerging artists will be in residence in the Mansion at Strathmore from January – August 2015. During this time, each artist will have the opportunity to develop an audience in the DC metropolitan area, perfect their craft, create and implement an outreach, educational, or special event proposal for Strathmore’s consideration, and premiere a new body of artwork, including a collaborative piece with one’s mentor, commissioned by Strathmore in a culminating exhibition. The exhibition of new work will take place in August of 2015 and will reflect the artistic growth of the artist in residence. Throughout the residency artists meet with a professional artist mentor for career guidance and artistic critique; attend career development workshops; and have the opportunity to teach, lecture, volunteer, exhibit or otherwise participate in Strathmore visual arts programming.
